An idea. Some chillies. A thriving business.

In October 2017, 18-year-old Daniel Herbst asked his father if they could make, bottle and sell the family’s chilli and garlic sauce. His father had developed the recipe after receiving chilli sauce from a barman at Zavora in Mozambique many years earlier.

Daniel blended his first batch on 27 October 2017. In the first two months, sales exceeded 1,400 bottles. What began as a way to earn spending money quickly became a real South African entrepreneurial story.
